Wannabe Chocolate Cake

Who doesn’t love chocolate?! Well, our bat prefers fruit, however, today we have a chocoholic healthy recipe! What is that you say, chocolate isn’t healthy? Well, yes, but also no! The fats and sugars within the chocolate aren’t healthy, however, if you manage to get your hands on some cacao it’s actually very good for your health!! So a little chocolate powder can be considered healthy especially if you find cacao! Cacao is actually a bean and is good for your digestive system, is packed with flavonoids, and can fight heart disease as well as regulate blood sugar. Of course, this doesn’t mean that eating milk chocolate is good, however, it can be part of a healthy diet. As I always say, balance is key!! This cake has not much more fats and sugars added, so it balances well health-wise the little chocolate we’re going to add!!

Ingredients

  • Oats
  • Almonds
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Aniseeds
  • Fennel
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves
  • Nutmeg
  • Honey
  • Avocado
  • Milk (Your favorite choice)

Method

Start by turning our oats and almonds into flour (I like to use half-and-half), add the baking soda, chocolate or cocoa powder, aniseed, fennel, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg in, and blend some more. In a separate container blend the avocado, milk, and honey into a milky paste. Slowly mix the two mixtures together (you can taste for that batter consistency and to regulate the sweetness and chocolate flavor, there are no eggs so it’s safe). Let it rest for around half an hour or a little more.

Preheat your oven and bake normally. You may want to cover it with chocolate or do a chocolate filling, however, you can leave it nice and plain to make sure you’re not adding any more fats, the chocolate flavor is strong enough as it is!

Variations

Besides coating it or filling it, you can add chocolate chips or nuts for that little something extra, especially if you want it for a special occasion. However, I loved it as it was. I had a little milky mixture from the previous cookie dough cake that I added in, the method there can also work, however, I thought that this is sweet enough and doesn’t need the banana so I used avocado instead! You can easily change this into a chocolate and orange cake or a chocolate and mint cake by brushing some liqueur once it is done! The possibilities are endless!! Hope you will give this cake a shot and make it your own with your personal touches! As always we encourage you to experiment and make your time in the kitchen fun and also to share your thoughts and experiences!

Bon appetite!!
